What do the Direct, Frame and Splash redirection types mean?

The Redirection field decides what the visitor sees between the click and the destination page.

TypeWhat happensWhen to use it
DirectThe visitor reaches the destination instantly. In most cases – this is the recommended option.
FrameThe destination opens inside a Selfpage page, and the short address stays in the browser bar. When you want the short link to stay visible. Some websites (for example Google or Facebook) don't allow being shown in a frame.
SplashAn intermediate page is shown before the redirect. When you want to tell the visitor where they're about to go.

Extra options

If you've created custom splash pages or CTA overlays, they also appear in the Redirection list, in the Custom Splash and CTA Overlay groups. Choose them to promote a product or a message before or on top of the destination page.

Set a default type

Under Settings → Default Redirection you choose the type used automatically for all new links. See account settings
