The main difference: a dynamic code can be changed and measured after it has been printed, a static one can't.
| Static QR | Dynamic QR | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the data is | Directly in the QR code | The code points to a Selfpage short link, which redirects to the destination |
| Can you change the destination after printing? | No – you have to generate and print a new code | Yes, any time, without reprinting |
| Scan statistics | No | Yes – number of scans, countries, devices |
| Works without internet | Yes (for example WiFi, text, static vCard) | Needs an internet connection |
| Types | Text, SMS & Message, WiFi, Static vCard, Event | vCard, Link, Email, Phone, SMS, File, WhatsApp, Cryptocurrency |
Recommendation: for anything printed in large quantities (flyers, packaging, posters), choose a dynamic code. If your offer or website changes, you only update the destination in your account.
Warning: for dynamic codes, if you change the domain on the edit page, the QR code changes too. Codes already printed with the old domain will no longer be updated.
